TAKE A CLASS WITH US!

We host classes for pottery, painting, drawing, and more! Our schedule is always changing, so be sure to check back often.

And just as a note, classes are where your membership really kicks in. If you plan to take a lot of classes (or even just a few), the discounts members get on classes more than pays for your membership. Just our little way of saying thank you and encouraging you to explore your love for art!

Paint & Sip with Kevin

Come join us for a fun night of canvas painting with Kevin Collier while he gives you step by step instructions on how to create your own 16x20 masterpiece.

 

This is a BYOB, bring your own beverage, class where you can enjoy your favorite beverage with friends!

Stained Glass Workshop

In this class, Cecilia Crowson of Eclectic Stained Glass, will teach students to create their own starfish stained glass piece using the copper foil technique. 

Participants will learn to:

-cut glass using a pattern

-grind glass

-copper foil the glass pieces

-solder the pieces together

Saturday, March 21 • 10am-1pm • 2 person limit

Ages: 18 & up

Cost: $100 members ($110 non-members) All supplies included. 

 

Closed-toed shoes and eye protection are required.

Oil Painting 101

Students will learn the basics of oil with step-by-step instructions in this six-week course. The first 3 weeks, students will work from the preselected photograph, pictured here, to learn basic shapes and shading. The second 3 weeks, students can choose their own image to begin painting from with the help of Rebecca.

March 12 - April 16 • 5-7pm

Ages: 18+

Intro to Monoprinting

Instructor, Kenny Redd, will teach you how to smear, draw and transfer ink from plate to paper as well as demo how to properly make your own ink to use!

Intro to Sumi-e

Sumi-what? Join instructor, Amanda Hunt, in learning the process of Japanese ink painting, known as Sumi-e. Learn this traditional asian art form first developed in China during the Sung dynasty (960–1274). 

This six-week course will consist of instructor demonstrations, hands-on working, and building your knowledge and understanding of traditional brush techniques.

Thursdays, March 26 - April 30 • 5-7pm
Ages: 12+
Cost: $180 member ($195 non-member) All supplies included.

Handbuild Pottery Studio

Sign up in advance to come to our pottery studio on Saturdays to learn hand building skills to make whatever you want: a bowl, cup, plate, or sculpture. You pick the project and our pottery teacher, Sara, will teach you how to make it!

Open Studio

Every Saturday (by appointment) • 10am

Ages: All ages. Students 12 and under must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Cost: Variable. $25 for the first day's instruction, plus a 25¢ fee per square inch of your creation. There is a one-time $17 fee for a bag of clay that can be re-used on each trip until you run out.

After your first lesson, the daily open studio fee is $10.

 

Pay in advance here. But be sure to call and book the Saturday you want.

Wheel Throwing Evenings

This pottery class will focus on Wheel Throwing for the beginner with glazing and firing processes included. The price includes instruction from well established art instructor Sara Pearsall.

Writers Gallery: Open Mic Night

Bring your manuscript, poetry, spoken word and participate in an open mic styled sharing session. You don't have to read or speak, you are also welcome to come listen. *No hate speak or overly explicit material please. Each night has a theme. Check our Facebook Events page for more details. 

2nd Thursday, every other month •  6 - 7:30pm (doors open at 5:30pm) • next one is February 13

Ages: 16 & up • Great for all levels of writers!

Cost: Free for Members (Suggested Donation $5 for non-members) 

 

Painting with Victoria Bush

Bring whatever painting your working on and paint in a great atmosphere while receiving one on one attention and instruction from veteran painter, Victoria Bush. 

Tuesdays • 4 - 7pm

  • Come in to the Center for the Arts to sign up and pay for your class in person. 

 

We take all credit cards, cash, or check. Checks must be made payable to Bay Arts Alliance.

FEATURED FUN

Come to the Center for the Arts to paint our featured ornament or magnet of the month.

EVERY SATURDAY

Bring the whole family or come on your own to paint an ornament to look like a cactus or giraffe, and take it home with you that day! All supplies are provided.

$1 suggested donation per ornament

DANCE WITH US

Join "That Swing Thing" on Thursday, February 6, for a swing dance lesson and social dance. No partner needed!

Admission is $10. Pay online or at the door.

Ben and Carrie will teach plenty to get you out on the floor having fun.

 

8pm Social Dancing

Practice what you've learned and meet new friends!

Mommy & Me

Join instructor Kevin Collier for a morning of canvas painting. Bring your little ones and let them express their inner artists with step by step instructions. Each student will have their own 10x10 canvas to customize.

Pottery

All ages can come to open handbuilding studio on Saturday (see Open Handbuild Pottery Studio on the adult class list), but children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Art Through The Ages

Students will join instructors Nikki Brooks and Breanna Williams to use different art mediums and explore art history beginning in ancient times.  

We will begin with a few weeks of basic art concepts to prepare for more in depth concepts in later weeks.  This series will be weekly through the end of the school year.

 

Thursdays, February 6 – 20 • 3:45 – 5:15pm

Ages: 7–11

Cost per class: $5 Members ($10 non-members)

February 6th - Composition
We will be using brush and ink to create high contrast artwork using composition concepts such as the rule of thirds, the use of negative space and open vs closed compositions.

February 13th - Perspective 
We will be using watercolor paint to create landscape paintings exploring the principles of perspective.  We will learn about vanishing points, foreshortening, and the use of light and shade to create the appearance of depth.

February 20th - Color Theory
We will be using acrylic paint to explore the color wheel, including the use of complimentary colors, the concepts of color mixing, and the use of color to express emotion in artwork.  

The class will then take a break the week of February 27th and return March 5th to begin an artistic journey through time, starting with Cave Drawings.
